The Unnatural Jew, Exploring our Personal Connection to Canada and Canaan

How well do you know the geography of your home province?  Can you name the lakes, rivers, mountains, valleys?  Most Israelis can.  In this session we will explore our personal connection to our homelands of Canada and Israel, discuss historic and current reasons for these relationships.  We will also explore ways to reinvigorate our connections the lands of Canada and Israel and discuss ways we can work for their environmental future.

Awe, Appreciation and Action: Inspiring Students Through Food, Nature and Environmental Responsibility

Inspiring wonder is the first goal of any Jewish educator, and what better way that through the beauty, gifts and functions of the natural world.  “How Great are your works Hashem, all have been Created in wisdom!” Using Brachot Hanehanim (Blessings of appreciation), games, stories and other experiential programs, we will explore ways to introduce students to the wonders of Creation.

Beyond the Seder: Top Ten Tu B’shvat Programs

Tu B’shvat is one time of the year when Jews celebrate the Earth, but there is snow on the ground and I’m tired of annual seders and tree plantings. What else can I do?’ In this session we will explore alternative indoor Tu B’shvat activities for children, as well as couple outdoors games you can play in a backyard or park.

Hanukah as a Holiday of Conservation

A group of believers fight for a cause and win; One day’s supply of oil lasts seven; A celebration of light on the darkest nights of the year. Hanukah is a holiday that speaks deeply to the questions challenging environmentally and socially conscious people. This workshop will explore curricular and practical tools to celebrate Hanukah as a holiday of conservation in your community.

Your Table as the Temple

Eating is an action our students take more than 3 times a day. What they choose to consume speaks volumes about our values and beliefs. In this workshop we will explore curriculum around Jewish and secular ethics related to healthy and environmental conscious food choices, modern food technology and how to make our meal a holy offering.
