The
Unnatural Jew, Exploring our Personal Connection to Canada
and Canaan
How well do you know the geography of your home province? Can
you name the lakes, rivers, mountains, valleys? Most Israelis can. In this session we will explore our
personal connection to our homelands of Canada
and Israel,
discuss historic and current reasons for these relationships. We will
also explore ways to reinvigorate our connections the lands of Canada and Israel and discuss ways we can work
for their environmental future.
Awe, Appreciation and Action: Inspiring Students Through Food, Nature and Environmental Responsibility
Inspiring wonder is the first goal of any Jewish educator, and what
better way that through the beauty, gifts and functions of the natural
world. “How Great are your works Hashem, all have been Created in wisdom!” Using Brachot Hanehanim (Blessings of
appreciation), games, stories and other experiential programs, we will explore
ways to introduce students to the wonders of Creation.
Beyond the Seder: Top Ten Tu B’shvat Programs
Tu B’shvat is one
time of the year when Jews celebrate
the Earth, but there is snow on the ground and I’m tired of annual seders and tree plantings. What else can I do?’ In this session we will
explore alternative indoor Tu B’shvat
activities for children, as well as couple
outdoors games you can play in a backyard or park.
Hanukah as a Holiday of
Conservation
A group of believers fight for a cause and win; One day’s supply of
oil lasts seven; A celebration of light on the darkest
nights of the year. Hanukah is a holiday
that speaks deeply to the questions challenging
environmentally and socially conscious people. This workshop will explore curricular and
practical tools to celebrate Hanukah as a holiday of conservation in your
community.
Your Table as the Temple
Eating is an action our students take more than 3 times a day. What they choose to consume speaks volumes
about our values and beliefs. In this
workshop we will explore curriculum around Jewish and secular ethics related to
healthy and environmental conscious food choices, modern food technology and
how to make our meal a holy offering.
